Meet EV Buddy: Connecting EV Drivers, Chargers and Community

What if another EV could come to your rescue when you need a charge?
That’s the idea behind EV Buddy and its fitting slogan: “My EV Can Charge Your EV.”
NJ Clean Cities recently caught up with EV Buddy founder Suresh Arya at the Oaks Integrated Services - Touch a Truck event in Camden, where we had the opportunity to demonstrate the company’s portable vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging technology. Suresh has been working to get EV Buddy in front of EV drivers, fleets and other organizations so people can see firsthand just how simple the concept can be.
EV Buddy’s technology allows one EV to transfer energy directly to another, providing mobile charging without needing to connect to a traditional charging station. The system is designed to work across EVs using both CCS and NACS connections, opening the door to a wide range of vehicles and potential applications. In field demonstrations, the system can add approximately one mile of range per minute of charging, depending on the vehicle and conditions.
For an EV driver who finds themselves unexpectedly short on range, it could essentially become the EV version of helping another motorist with a jump.
More Than Vehicle-to-Vehicle Charging
The technology is only one part of what EV Buddy is building.
The EV Buddy app is designed to connect EV drivers who need a charge with other members of the EV Buddy network. But it’s also becoming a broader resource for EV drivers. The app includes a community forum where EV owners can ask questions, share information and connect with other drivers about the everyday experience of owning and operating an EV.
The company is also expanding the platform with Rent-a-Charger, which allows charger owners to share their home or business chargers, creating another way for drivers to find charging beyond the traditional public charging network.
EV Buddy recently reached another major milestone: its iOS app has been approved by Apple, joining its Android platform and bringing the company another step closer to expanding its network.
For Suresh and the EV Buddy team, the next step is getting more people to experience the technology, download the app and become part of the growing community.
EV Buddy is also planning pilot programs in New Jersey and the broader tri-state area as it continues to expand real-world testing and partner engagement.
It’s an interesting addition to the EV charging conversation, and one we were excited to see in action right here in Camden.
